Admission conditions
1.
Applicants must submit the following documents, otherwise the application will be rejected. ****Official transcripts****
2.
Statement of purpose (SOP) of 500-1000 words explaining (1) academic background, (2) research experiences, and (3) research plan at CMU including potential thesis title, objectives, research methods, research workflow diagram, and the name and title of the potential thesis advisor from the Department of Geological Sciences at CMU.
3.
Certificate of English Language Proficiency test taken within the last 2 years such as TOEFL (ITP/CBT/IBT) or IELTS except for applicants who are from the native English-speaking countries listed at https://www.sheffield.ac.uk/international/english-speaking-countries.
4.
Two recommendation letters from the current or latest academic advisor of the applicant, past or current supervisor or employer, or those who are familiar with the applicant?s scholarly work.
5.
Letter or proof of communication between the applicant and the potential thesis advisor at CMU verifying that the applicant has contacted in advance a professor at the Department of Geological Sciences in the field of the intended study to initiate the research plan together.
Applicant Qualifications
1.
Holding a Batchelor?s degree in geology, physics, geotechnology, geophysics, geotechnical engineering, mining engineering, civil engineering or environmental engineering, or relevant fields.

Program Requirements
  1.
